Every so often Dave will explore a new design, construction material, or methodology on this knifemaking adventure. His favorite thing to do is come up with a different blade shape, that utilizes an existing frame design. In this case a griffon frame has been been paired with a bird inspired blade that made the jump from mind to metal with a black sharpie and a band saw. Being a full custom, every main component of this build has been hand fabricated by Dave personally over the period of about a week and a half worth of work. The clip itself is an 18 step hand milled process. And you'll notice, has been partially stag textured to shadow what's going on with the frame below it.
The Frame was built using .125" thick 6al4V titanium for a "thinline" profile. (meaning it is not as thick as the usual .187 folder, making it a bit more pocket friendly). The frame was jigged or stag textured in a manner to emulate a folded wing, then given a brass colored anodizing and tumble. The result is a nice uniform finish with a brass hue, and just a bit of a vintage vibe.
Hinderer LBSS used under license by Rick to stabilize the lock and prevent overtravel. Blade steel is Crucible's CPM154, heat treated by Bos and given a satin stonewashed finish. It was left sterile of markings, while the clip wears the "Kingdom" trade name and the inside of the frame is stamped "EXP" to denote the folder being an Experimental project.
Sometimes these experimentals make the jump to a regular model, sometimes they remain just a one-off that filled a need to create and explore for Dave at the time. This one is probably the latter. It's a rare bird, that you won't see again and was the first folder made while coming out of a dark time here in the Kingdom family. We hope it finds a good home to roost!
