A ton of grinding and reshapping goes into the Woodsman Hatchets. Now being included as part of the new Heritage Collection, these hatchets started life out as Swiss manufactured military axes produced approximately 30 years ago. Dave has chipped away everything that wasn't useful to bring out the resulting new piece within. Each one will be unique and different as a result, but all within the same size envelope and scope of purpose as being light weight backpack hatchets.
The head on this one is high carbon steel that was differentially heat treated during manufacture, now wearing a satin stonewashed finish and Heritage Chop. Just back from Trinity Boletus in Quebec where it received a custom haft and leather sheath. Handle is made in the old way, out of white ash using planes and spoke shavers. Two tone finish on handle is actually a burned finish that was torch applied before being hand rubbed with wax.
Overall weight with sheath is 1.9 lbs
Head dimesions 5.5" x 3.5" at the widest flared point
