KA Heritage Sater Forge - Swedish Killing Axe

Truly a rare bird, and exceptionally hard to find these days. The Sater Yxa Fabriken - Swedish Killing Axe orginally fabricated between 1905 to 1915. The killing axe design was essentially a butcher's axe. The functional adaptation of a hewing axe which served great for chopping and quartering jobs, with the addition of the hammer on the poll. That hammer is there for smacking livestock and dropping them in place, "braining" them for a clean and instant kill.
Dave has worked on quite a few killing axes over the years, many of them having been field modified version where that hammer was added onto an already existing hewing axe. Most of those had been mid century pieces, exhibiting a round hammer. Earlier pieces such as these were intentionally factory made in this manner and have a faceted square hammer head. These are the rarest and hardest to find, seeming to be a low number specialty piece.
These Sater kiling axes are as rare as hen's teeth and rarely offered for sale. The twin of this axe hangs on Dave's office wall. Same pattern, same size, same markings. And as such, Dave had already done some historic research on these axes and of all things...unearthed old photographs of the forge and its staff from shortly after the time period this axe was made. It's entirely possible if not probable that one of the smiths in these photos was in fact the person who made this exact piece!
Located in Sweden, acquired and shipped to the Kingdom Armory shop for resoration. The head was stripped, descaled and hand wire wheel buffed to knock off a 100 years of age and crust. It was then sent up to Quebec Canada where a hand fabricated white ash haft was expertly carved and fitted by Emile Bournival. Emile's traditional and masterfully executed axe handles are like non other! Truly a work of art in themselves, and clearly made by a craftsman who has a deep love for his craft. The leather sheath was also hand crafted at that same time prior to being shipped back to Oregon.
The full burn detail and white "Kingdom" stripe make the axe even more striking.
A rare chance to own a tangible piece of history here that spans over a hundred years of time, thousands of miles of distance, and now shares the labor of generations of crafstman.
