KA Custom Super Butcher

Dave's Super Butcher (or super BtB-f) is a stretched variation of the original BtB-f design. It is 1.5" longer, with half of that being in the frame and half in blade length. Giving the super butcher a 3.5" long blade, without enlarging any other dimensions. The result is a longer folding butcher with the perception of also being thinner.

With this build, Dave set out to modernize the decades old Dragon Skin texture. After some experimention with different techniques and end mill sizes, he settled on a 3/8" radiused carbided cutting head run at varying depths in a random pattern. The result does mimic the original texture while somehow...looking more modern.

The frame was first given a hand ground CC'd contour, so parts of the frame still exibit that domed effect for some additional interst and comfort in hand. Built entirely from 6al4V inert Titanium, everything was given a wire wheel texture prior to being glass blasted and anodized in an "antique'd blue". The result is a cool variegated blue effect with bright blue in the lows, fading to raw tumbled satin colors in the highs and edges. Additional border milling adds a bit more interest to the frame construction.

Backspacer and clip are also solid Ti, and the clip has been built as a partially blind mounted slant back. Meaning... There is a hidden brass post securing the clip to frame at the tail, with only one small visible screw require to mount the clip. Overall a clean and uobtrusive look, while still being bomb proof! 

The hand-hallow ground blade is made from Carpentersteel's CTS-XHP stainless and given a tumbled acid-washed finish. Hand-milled jimping on the spine gives a clean and secure purchase for your thumb.  

Blade rides smoothly on phosphor bronze washers around a stainless and titanium Steve Kelly pivot. Lock up is firm at 25% on face with a clean and crisp release. Lock-face has been carbidized for longevity. All hardware is either stainless or satin finished titanium.
