The sintered nature of this material really does make for an ideal kitcken knife, and although not the latest vogue "super steel" CPM154 is a workhorse material that holds up to being left in a wet sink and can still be ground thin and flexible without snapping from use. Scales are nicely contoured deep burgundy linen micarta, epoxied and affixed with brass rod. The forward stepped bolster area is a functional design addition, that provides a flat non slip orientation spot for your thumb when the knife is turned sideways to cuts filets. Milled jimping down the spine provides another non slip point during more robust cutting. The subtle transition from handle to an upward sweeping spine helps imparting more cutting force with less effort on the draw, while keeping your knuckles up off the counter.
