Stepping into a fresh new design here, after working up a couple prototypes... Dave is pleased to introduce the newest addition to the custom folder family, the Gullwing. Actually named after his favorite skateboard trucks as a kid in LA, but also appropriately named for the swooping shapes and seagull like appearance of the design. This is one sharp bird!
Hand fabricated and hand ground by Dave, the Full titanium frame is made from grade 5, 6al4V titanium with a blade of CPM154 that has been heat treated by Bos.
Requiring 17 manual machining steps just to fabricate the clip alone, the entire frame itself has a hand applied rounded contour done first on a slack belt before being fixtured for the stag texturing detail. You'll notice this was done in a manner as to invoke a winged feel. The jigged portion of the frame was first bead blasted before the next finish stage, to give a little two tone depth to the aesthetic. All the titanium was then given a satin orange peel texture, that not only looks extremely clean but wears well over time and use. That bit O' shine matches nicely with the satin stonewashed blade finish as well.
3.75" in Blade length, this is a medium/large folder that really fills the hand well, while at the same time carrying easily in the pocket. Blade rides on phosphor bronze washers and a ceramic detent that feels "real nice Clark". Carbidized lockface locks up like a vault at about 35% on face with a clean release.
The Bird is the Word, man!
