KA Bench Series Mid-tech Folder
KA Bench Series Hand-Ground Mid-Tech folder
The last Bench Series coming out of the shop!
Back a few years ago when the full size Samaritan production project was released, Dave pulled a limited number of those folders and created the "Bench Series". Essentially, a partially completed production was taken out of the que then hand finished in some unique manner by Dave. All were hand ground, some having additional framework modifications done along with being hand finished and tuned. A true "mid-tech". Not just a machine made production by a different name. Rick Hinderer coined the term years ago to describe a point between fully hand made and fully machine made, and Dave took it to heart. Following Ricks description, all Bench Series mid-techs will always have hand ground blades.
This full size Sammy was given a totally new look, which honestly is much more akin to the custom Masada tanto. A "masada grind" if you will. This S30v blade was re profiled, ditching the drop point and bringing forth a wicked looking tanto design. The asymetrical duplex hollow grind, creates an extremely slicey blade with a unique looking profile that "steps" around the old school KA Helmet logo on the presentation side.
The stainless thumbstuds were removed in the process and replaced with titanium, as was the pivot screw as well. The entire folder was then glass blasted and tumbled for a nice durable matte finish, with the exception of the stop pin and backspacer. Those two items were polished and PVD coated "gun metal black" for a little bit of accent.
Set firmly between the full custom and production lines, each Bench folder is a unique work in itself with no two ever being done the same. This one even more so as being the only Tanto done to date!
Smooth, tuned and flickable. Early 20% lockup on a carbidized face, swinging on phosphor bronze, this folder is ready to carry and use if you choose.
