KA Custom Hawthorne Framelock

The Hawthorne design dating back to 2014, was an exercise in creating a medium-size hard-use and extremely practical folder for EDC. The curved frame geometry allows the knife to tuck back nicely into a pocket when carried and reveals a modified drop point blade with an impressive amount of belly and cutting edge for its size when open. Ergonomically very comfortable in the hand, the sweeping curve to the design also orientates the tip and forward most cutting edge below the knuckle line and into the cutting task.

A completely hand-fabricated frame, constructed out of 6al4V titanium and given Dave's milled Stag Pattern texture, the frame, backspacer, and clip all wear a nice even bead blast and tumbled finish. This produces a soft grey-toned and durable titanium finish which contrasts nicely with the satin tumbled finish of the blade. To that point, the blade was constructed from CPM154 stainless, heat treated by Bos, and hand ground without fixture or work rest. The exaggerated swedge adds to the aggressive yet extremely functional nature of this blade. After 20-plus years of grinding, Dave has honed in how to meld both form and function in a useful yet aesthetically pleasing shape. This Hawthorne is a superb example of that ability.

Spydie hole used under license. Very flickable, the folder locks up securely at about 35% on the face with a clean release from its carbidized lock. Further lock bar stabilization and overtravel protection is accomplished by the installation of the industry standard Hinderer Lock, also used under license from Rick Hinderer.
