Mid-Century Swedish Carpenter Axe
Located and shipped in from Sweden, this axe head was originally forged toward the tail end of Timber framings practicality. Essentially a modified "timber cruiser" pattern, this axe was made a bit heavier for driving pegs and nails and has a nail puller slot notched into the underside of the blade.
An extremely utilitarian design, this axe would make an equally great limbing axe or general purpose work horse. The drop wing detail around the eye not only adds some visual interest but also adds strength and stability to the axe and its handle fit.
To that point, the haft was hand fabricated in Quebec by Trinity Boletus out of a nice piece of white Ash and finished off with a hand rubbed oil finish. The pomel is a unique take on the traditional flare that Emile is so adept at hand carving. Fitting the hand perfectly, this new shape strikes an interesting visual balance between a sweeping flare and a more squared off tail. You'll be seeing more and more of this unique handle shape in the future. The swedish blue Stag Shed paint detail was added here in the KA shop.
Head was cleaned and refinished, given a two tone satin and stonewashed finish then marked with the Heritage Chop. Edge was put on using a slack belt for added strength in the cutting edge geometry, and is currently hair popping sharp. A hand fabricated leather snap sheath protects that edge.
