KA Heritage English Carving Axe
English chip chop pattern Carving Axe - Mid to Early 1900's Elwell manufactured 1 3/4 pattern.
Finagled out of the Trintiy Boletus personal collection, this little carving hatchet is a thing of beauty! Forged in the UK out of high quality high carbon steel by Elwell in one of their more recognizeable patterns. This head was expertly hung on a curved and flaired haft that wears a full burned and waxed finish. A short 15" in overall length, this little carving axe is built to be handy and extremely easy to pack around. A light pack axe for bushcrafting... or tucked in a belt to make quick work of limbing, trimming and knocking back saplings around the yard. This would be a joy to use, and in fact is almost identically to one Dave has used for those purposes for years.
The edge on this one was done by Emile, and is mirror shiny and razor sharp.. having been taken down to 10,000 grit. As such, the snap sheath was really important on this piece. Not only does it fit perfectly secure, it was done with some deisgn flair that really compliments the lines of this hatchet. Saddle brown with red stiching and scalloped cut opening, this sheath is neat!
The head was marked with the Rydbom Heritage Logo amoungst the orginal maker's marks. But, just to add a little bit more... Dave painted on a deep navy blue handle detail that mimics that scalloped both top and bottom, and is just one more unique feature that makes this little hatchet SO damn cool...
