Stand in the shadow of a Giant. Swede August Hedvall 1866 - 1900 was known as "the Giant" during his tenure as head of the Uraförs Yxabrik. His personally forged axes are iconic and absolute perfection in design and construction. As a habit, Dave usually pulls every one he comes across to add to his personal collection...only recently deciding to release a few for public consumption.

By default, most axes made by the Giant are...well, Giant! His hewing axes are often twice the size of most others of the day and although I'm sure he could use them single handed, though you'll want to keep both hands on them as a mere mortal. Spoiler alert- Thanos was real, and he was a Swedish Black Smith!

With that said, Dave was shocked to have recently come across a few examples of Hedvall's work still in the mother land that are light and nimble. Making for a very whippy and useful limbing axe/long hatchet when rehung. Mabe this was a thumb chisel for him, or a conserted effort to make a boys hatchet. Whatever the reason, we thank his ghost and pay tribute.

Hand stripped and wire wheeled by Dave, the poll was squared and refaced as well. Very prominent "AH" stamped into face attest to its orginal maker. Swedish collard design for strength with somewhat unusually long face/cheeks for reaching deep into a cut. What the Brits would come to refer to as a "chip chop". This axe was light and handy, and like the American "timber-cruiser," something you could carry all day limbing trees.

High carbon laminated cutting edge took and will retain a keen cutting edge. Over 120 yrs worth of usuage marks and scars attest to a history you just can't fake.

24.5” White ash haft and leather sheath custom fabricated by Emile at Trinity Boletus in Quebec, with a burned detail on the pommel.
