A barn find located in Slovenia, this hand forged axe head was purpose built to do work in a Butchery in a different time and age. Made wide and heavy, and given the ubiquitous "cleaver hole" you'd expect to find in a butcher shop tool. New life has now been breathed into this axe.
Similar in patterning to both Finnish and Soviet "meat axes", this Eastern European head was made even heavier. Used hard, cutting meat and bone for who knows how long. It was in need of some re-profiling and serious cleaning. The poll was refaced and the orignal "cleaver hole" was slightly enlarged to clean up the inside shoulders that were badly chewed up.
Additionally stripped and cleaned using electrolysis, then tumbled and refinished here in the K.A. shop, it was then sent to Quebec where a custom 21" white ash shaft and leather sheath were fabricated by Boletus Trinity.
