KA Custom Butcher with Duplex Compound Grind
KA Custom Butcher w/Duplex Compound Grind
Just the second folder offered this year on the stag shop, this custom Butcher is built out as a titanium framelock w/an antiqued brass and OD micarta scale on the presentation side. The frame has a nice rounded contour, or "CC'd" profile that was cut by hand. The titanium pivot collars on this folder function as both a complimentary aesthetic having been brass anodized, but also as a mechanical lockbar stabilizer and overtravel stop. A subtle but hugely important detail that could easily be overlooked because of it's unobtrusive installation.
A pen style "slant back" clip was milled from a solid ti billet, and has a matching contour to the frame. The titanium backspacer is installed in a recessed manner and also brass anodized to create a little more interest and shadow line profile.
The blade on this folder was fabricated from Swedish RWL-34, heat treated by Bos and hand ground by Dave in a duplex compound manner. That hollow step grind is symetrical on both sides, and complicates nicely at the nose of the blade as the aggressive swedge combines with the primary grind to create a diamond shape. A hand rubbed satin stonewashed finish rounds out the blade and creates a durable and clean looking finish.
The remaining finishes on this folder include satin hardware, glass bead blasted and tumbled titanium, and an antiqued forced patina on the brass bolster that was cleared to protect and preserve the look. Folder will come shipped in one of Dave's hand sewn wool felt pouches, enclosed in a waterproof case.
